Motion becomes a distribution.
A spinning rotor stirs the balls. Their escape speed determines where they land.

● Measured— Ideal
The ideal curve appears once at least 8 balls have landed in the bins.
HOW IT WORKS
Position measures speed.
The drop from the outlet to the bin dividers is 28 mm, giving a fall time of about 75.6 ms. Balls with a higher horizontal escape speed reach more distant bins, revealing a speed distribution. The yellow line shows the ideal effusion distribution fitted to the measurements. Collisions and friction cause the measured distribution to differ from this ideal.
